On the heels of the Governor’s $6.5 billion investment to expand broadband infrastructure and enhance internet access for unserved and underserved communities, today construction began in rural San Diego County on a new fiber-optic network that will bring high-speed internet to more than 100,000 homes. The project will provide broadband service to homes, businesses, and public institutions, including schools, libraries, hospitals and government offices. It will be the largest public-private partnership in California’s history, with the CPUC contributing $1.2 billion to the project and a total of $5.4 billion in funding from the federal government, state and local governments, as well as private investors.
