In recent times, lidocaine patch has been introduced as a separate modality for pain control. It is thought that this medication will help by blocking the nociceptors involved in the treatment of pain. In the present study, we investigated the analgesic effects of a single oral dose of lisdexamfetamine dimesylate (LDX) in mice.
We found that LDX (0.5 mg/kg, i.p.) significantly reduced the immobility time in a tail suspension test (TST) and significantly increased the time spent immobile compared to vehicle-treated mice (P < 0.05). In addition, the TST latency was significantly longer in lsdx-pretreated mice than in vehicle treated mice, and the latency to enter the open field (OFO) test was also significantly shorter.
These results suggest that the pharmacological inhibition of voltage gated Na+ channels may play an important role in analgesia.
